Health Begins in the Bowel

According to the ancient healer Hippocrates, who is considered to be the father of medicine, health begins in the gut. Without a healthy gut nutrients from food cannot be properly absorbed. An unhealthy gut is one in which the ecological balance between good and bad bacteria is disturbed. As in any ecosystem, when it is disturbed the natural order of things begin to change. In the case of the gut, which contains a sodden mass of food and chemicals, that change causes fermentation. According to Dr. Majid Ali (MajidAli.com) as mold and candida begin to grow they lay a layer of grease over the mitochondria, which is the oxygen producing segment of the cells. As in a pond that becomes stagnant, parasites like the Lyme spirochete, bartonella, or babesia take up residence. Not only do yeasts and molds produce toxic waste, so too do the parasites. As the gut continues to ferment it becomes a cesspool of toxic waste that can no longer do its job properly. Anyone with chronic stomach aches, IBS, Crohn’s disease, diverticulitis, colitis, or IBD knows exactly what I mean.

A Permeable Gut

In addition, when the gut ferments it becomes “leaky” or permeable. It is this gut permeability, or what is called “leaky gut syndrome”, that allows undigested food proteins to leak into the blood stream. This also acts like a poison in the body. Because the body does not recognize these undigested food proteins, it believes they are foreign invaders which it attacks with antibodies. When these poisons go into the brain they create every form of mental illness there is, including autism and all autistic spectrum disorders, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, schizoaffective disorder, obsessive compulsive disorder, anxiety, and depression, etc. It also creates learning disabilities like dyslexia, ADD, ADHD, social phobias, dyspraxia and others. They are also the cause of brain fog. When they settle in the joints they create arthritis. When these poisons settle in the muscles they become the basis for fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue. The resulting food sensitivities are responsible for an enormous list of symptoms, including, but not limited to:

SKIN: acne, canker sores, dark circle under the eyes, eczema, dermatitis, hives, itching, pale color, psoriasis, rosacea, seborrhea, fungal infections of the toe nails, athletes foot, jock itch

RESPIRATORY: asthma, chronic rhinitis, cough, frequent colds, hay fever, nosebleeds, post nasal drainage, sinusitis, stuffy nose, wheezing,

Eye Conditions: conjunctivitis, eye pain, blurred vision, sensitivity to light, tearing, temporary refractive changes, itchy eyes and ears

GENITOURINARY: bedwetting, frequent/painful urination, genital itch/discharge, yeast infections

MUSCULSKELETAL: arthritis joint pains, muscle cramps and spasms, muscle pain/weakness

HEADACHE: sinus, migraine

CARDIOVASCULAR: angina, high/low blood pressure, irregular heart beat, rapid pulse/palpitations

MENTAL/BEHAVIORAL: anxiety, depression, dizziness, drowsiness, epilepsy, floating sensations, fatigue, hyperactivity, nervousness, insomnia, sleep disorders, irritability, mood swings, learning disorders, confusion, poor concentration, memory problems, unsteadiness, schizophrenia

GASTROINTESTINAL: constipation, diarrhea, gallbladder pains, gas, heartburn, hemorrhoids, indigestion, nausea, vomiting, pains or cramps, nervous stomach, spastic colon, colitis

OTHER: abnormal body odor, diabetes, excessive sweating, obesity

Immune System Destruction

Anyone with a serious disorder like Parkinson’s disease, MS, Alzheimer’s disease, ALS, Lou Gehrig’s disease, cancer, heart disease, diabetes, obesity, infectious diseases, tuberculosis, respiratory infections, COPD, or influenza most likely all have the same thing in common: gut fermentation. Why is this true? It is because a fermenting bowel destroys the immune system and poisons the nerves and brain, which leaves one wide open to get every kind of disease known to man.

Antibiotics Cause Our Suffering

There are many reasons why so many people suffer from gut fermentation. They are:

  1. The overuse of antibiotics. Even if a person has never had antibiotics in their life, if they have regularly ingested any kind of inorganic meat, milk, cheese, chicken or eggs they have ingested antibiotics on a regular basis day after day since it was introduced into livestock feed over 60 years ago.
  2. Birth control pills then came into vogue shortly after WWII. Birth control pills not only created a cultural revolution, they further damaged our gut flora.
  3. The purpose of disinfectants is to kill bacteria. Therefore, the chlorine, chloramine, and chlorine dioxide in our tap water has been killing our gut bacteria ever since we started drinking it by putting it into our soup, tea, coffee, soda and other foods.
  4. Regardless of what one believes about the effectiveness of fluoride to prevent cavities, it is a proven fact that it, too, kills probiotics. We have been drinking it since it was put into our water supply in 1951.
  5. The mercury from our dental fillings and the fish we eat also kill our probiotics.
  6. Many over-the-counter and prescriptions drugs, including NSAIDS  kill probiotics.
  7. Although sugar doesn’t kill probiotics, it feeds the unfriendly bacteria, causing it to grow. When we stop feeding the bad bacteria sugar, we crave it.

If all of this wasn’t bad enough, there is also the inheritance problem. It seems that in the womb an infant’s digestive tract is sterile. When an infant moves through the birth canal it receives all the probiotics it needs for life from its mother. After WWII when antibiotics came into vogue, doctors began giving it to us for every kind of infection, even those that had been traditionally cured quite well with herbs. After the first batch of post-antibiotic mothers gave birth, their children inherited less probiotics than the generation before. The next generation inherited even less, and the next after that even less. We are now five generations past the introduction of antibiotics into the public domain with each succeeding generation of children being born with less probiotics than the one before. Because one can’t digest their food properly without healthy gut ecology, children, who are born healthy, are now developing what is being called regressive autism as soon as they begin eating solid food. Without healthy gut flora, they develop leaky gut syndrome very rapidly. As soon as undigested food proteins leak into their blood stream and cross the blood/brain barrier, their brains are poisoned and they become “autistic”. Autism is nothing more than gut fermentation in high gear, which has concurrently knocked out the immune system. When the person being poisoned only weighs twenty or thirty pounds, the result is excruciating pain as the parasites and bacteria poison them from the inside out. When these children start receiving heavy metal-laden vaccines, sometimes beginning the day they are born, they have no defenses against the “dead” bacteria and other harmful ingredients they contain. They simply don’t have enough immune response to deal with the thirty plus vaccines they are given before they are three years old

Imbalanced ecology, a fermenting bowel, oxygen starvation, parasites and bacteria, toxic waste, food sensitivities, inadequate inheritance, heavy metals: I hope it is now obvious to everyone reading this post why humanity has gotten so sick with diseases that our great-grandparents never even heard of.

How to Heal the Gut

The good news is that there are ways to heal the gut, but it takes time and concerted effort to achieve. It also takes a willingness to become self-determined and to think outside the box.

I never like to present bad news without also presenting the solution. If you have any of the symptoms presented above you need to think about healing your gut. It takes concerted effort and perseverance to do so. The first step is the hardest, the others less tedious.

1. Changing your diet is the most determined step and the hardest for most people to achieve.

When you eat food that you are sensitive to, it further damages the gut. This causes inflammation which begins in the gut and then spreads to other parts of the body, such as your joints or head, causing arthritis and headaches. To begin the process of healing the gut Dr. Majid Ali suggests that you go on a gluten free, milk free, and sugar free diet.

Dr. Dahlman, another gut doctor, concurs, but says that one should also exclude all fructose, which means no processed sugar, fruit, or sweet vegetables like carrots, beets, squash, sweet potatoes, and onions.

Dr. Natasha Campbel-McBride, the creator of the GAPS (Gut and Psychology Syndrome) diet, goes even further than that. She says to only drink home made bone broth for a few days until all your food sensitivity symptoms go away, which they will within four days. Then add on one vegetable at a time, pausing after each one to see if any of your symptoms return. If they do you must remove it until a later date. Since each kind of bacteria in the gut digests different kinds of food, it could be a long time before everything can be digested again. According to her, it takes up to two years to heal the gut using this method. Because sugar feeds candida, since starchy foods like potatoes, bread, noodles, and grains turn into sugar in the body, they won’t be added back into the diet until a much later date.

3.  According to Dr. Ali Majid, one must also heal the dysfunctional oxygen metabolism of the gut. This is simply done with hydrogen peroxide foot soaks. Hydrogen peroxide is activated oxygen. When one puts it into a foot soak with water it absorbs through the skin and reoxygenates the body. This must be done on a regular basis until the gut is healed.

4. To cleanse the gut of grease that the fermenting goo within the gut creates, Dr. Ali recommends regular castor oil rubs. This is simply done by rubbing castor oil on the stomach and then massaging it in for a few minutes. Because castor oil is very thick and sticky, when you are done with the massage you can cover your abdomen with a dry washcloth that is held in place with an ACE bandage until the castor oil is soaked in. A castor oil pack greatly reduces inflammation in any part of your body, not just your digestive tract. Though it is great to use when one is experiencing indigestion, bloating, or gas to decrease symptoms, it can also be used on a swollen ankle or arm. Simply apply the castor oil, wrap with a dry cloth and then hold in place with an ACE bandage. That’s all there is to it.

5. Dr. Ali also recommends taking something that will kill the candida. There are herbs that will do this, as well as a relatively safe drug called Nystatin. However, this is not a quick fix for bad bacteria hide in all the little creases and folds of the digestive tract and will return as soon as Nystatin is no longer taken. Therefore, Dr. Ali recommends a less aggressive approach. He says to take half the regular dose over a longer period of time. That’s  one pill twice a day instead of 4 times a day. He also says to take it for 12 days on and 2 days off for as long as necessary.

6. Dr. Dahlman recommends taking Sacromyces Boulardi, which is a good bacteria that eats the bad bacteria.

7. Dr. Majid Ali and Dr. Natasha Campbell-McBride both recommend eating a lot of probiotic-rich food such as homemade yogurt, kefir, sauerkraut, and kimchee to repopulate the gut with healthy probiotics.

It seems that humanity not only went on a campaign to commit probiotic genocide, with the advent of refrigeration we also stopped making our own homemade fermented foods. Fermented foods, which are full of probiotics, were the way human beings replenished their probiotic supply throughout history. Unfortunately store bought foods like sauerkraut that used to be fermented are now made with vinegar which do nothing for the digestive tract. In addition, store bought kefir and yogurt aren’t fermented long enough to do our digestive tract much good either. Most brands are also loaded with sugar, making them counterproductive to eat. Therefore, the best fermented foods are the ones that one makes themselves. There are lots of videos on YouTube that will teach you how.

Unfortunately, there is no quick fix for an ailing digestive tract. It takes work and perseverance. However, once you get started on the dietary changes and other protocols needed to heal your body, you will feel so much better you won’t be motivated to stop.

Additional Protocols

The other protocols necessary to heal your chronic disease are:

  1. The removal of heavy metals and other environmental chemicals.
  2. Rehydration therapy
  3. Reoxygenation therapy
  4. Healing infections, and killing Lyme disease and other co-occurring infections.
